The senior Group management in the parent company Kommunal Landspensjonskasse (KLP) comprises ten experienced individuals with broad background from the Norwegian business world.
The Group management is organised according to business areas, where the Life Insurance, Asset Management, Non-Life Insurance, Property and Banking units are represented. In addition the Group management includes the Finance/Economy, Communication and Group Services staff units.

Sverre Thornes
Group Chief Executive Officer KLP
Sverre Thornes has a BA in Business Administration from the American College in Paris. He joined KLP in 1995 as an interest rate instruments manager and headed KLP Kapitalforvaltning from 2001 – 2006. He has been managing the Life Insurance Division of Kommunal Landspensjonskasse from 1 April 2006 to 3. January 2008.

Aage E. Schaanning
Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer
Aage Schaanning has a MBA from the University of Colorado and is an Authorised Financial Analyst. He has previously worked with raising finance, balance sheet control and asset management with BNbank and Kreditkassen before starting at KLP in 2001 as Investment Director at KLP Kapitalforvaltning. He headed KLP Kapitalforvaltning from 2006-2008.

Ole Jacob Frich
Executive Vice President, Communication
Ole Jacob Frich was educated at Sagene Lærerhøgskole (teachers training college). Before he came to KLP in 2000 he worked at Geelmuyden.Kiese and at the Norwegian Financial Services Association (FNH). He has broad political background including as Kommunalråd (a full-time municipal politician with executive powers) in Oslo municipality and as State Secretary within the then Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.

Ida Espolin Johnson
Executive Vice President, Life Insurance
Ida Espolin Johnson is a law graduate from the University of Oslo. She came from the law firm Steenstrup Stordrange to KLP as legal director in March 2005. Since 16 April 2007 she was Executive Vice President for KLP’s Group Services until she started with Life Insurance 8 January 2008.

Håvard Gulbrandsen
Managing Director KLP Asset Management
Håvard Gulbrandsen has a MSc in Management Sciences from the University of Warwick (1988), Master in Finance & Investments (1989) and is authorised financial analyst from 1992. His previous experience includes portfolio manager - fixed income in Storebrand Asset Management and Director of investments in DnB Investor AS. He joined KLP from the position of Head of Asset Strategies Equities / Head of Core Corporate Governance in the Bank of Norway Investment Management. He is Managing Director of KLP Asset Management since September 1. 2009.

Hans Martin Hovden
Managing Director KLP Skadeforsikring AS
Hans Martin Hovden graduated as an engineer from NTH (now the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) in Trondheim. He has worked with the non-life company since 1992, leading the business since 1997. He was formerly with Uni Forsikring and Storebrand.

Steinar Manengen
Managing Director KLP Eiendom AS
Steinar Manengen graduated as an engineer from Lund University as well as from the executive management programme at IMD, Lausanne. He was the MD of Nora Eiendom AS from 1983 to 1995 when the company was acquired by KLP. Since then he has been the Managing Director of KLP Eiendom AS.

Toril Bariusdotter Ressem
Executive Vice President Group Services
Ms Toril Bariusdotter Ressem was educated as a cand.polit., which means that she is more or less the equivalent of a Master of Political Science. She has majored in pedagogics (the science of teaching) and has studied politics and the environment, marketing and management. She has been Executive Vice President at NSB (the Norwegian State Railways), Customer Service Director at Telenor, Director of Human Relations (HR) and Organisation at Rikshospitalet HF (the Norwegian National Hospital), Project Manager at Helse Sør-Øst (the Public Health Service for South-East Norway), in addition to having carried out extensive consultancy in private and public enterprises. As from 1 April 2009 she has been an Executive Vice President at KLP.

Rune Mæland
Executive Vice President IT
Rune Mæland trained as an engineer in IT/computer science at Bergen University College of Engineering (Bergen Ingeniørhøgskole). He has worked for KLP since 1981, first as a systems developer, then as a systems manager, and since 1993 he has headed the IT section at KLP. He has been KLP’s Executive Vice President IT since 3 July 2008.

Stig Helberg
Managing Director KLP Banken AS
Stig Helberg graduated from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration - NHH in 1992 and became a Master of Finance in 2004. He worked for BNbank for fifteen years, of which the last eight as Deputy Managing Director responsible for the borrowing activity, risk management and investor information. He has also worked as a financial analyst at Vital Forsikring, the insurance company, and his last position was as CFO and Acting Managing Director of Det Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskab, the shipping line. He has been Managing Director of KLP Banken since 20th May 2009.
